William J. Akridge was born in Louisville, Ky. in the mid - 1960s. Over the past two decades, he has toiled full-time as a professional artist in various venues. Often hired to craft images and artwork for national and international organization, in these years William has completed commissioned-art for a large number of projects including pieces for major sports events, historical events, and special commemorations. This fee is paid at the time of the consulting session. The consultation is free when you make an appointment to see me in my studio. Note: The consulting fees are applied only to portraits 16 x 20 inches or larger. Payment : 50% of the commission price is paid at the beginning of your Oil Portrait, the balance is due when the Portrait is approved. This is non refundable if canceled. Extra cost : Travel, lodging, framing and shipping is paid by you. Design: I can do all custom photography, and will design a unique look for you or a loved one. This only applies to 16 x 20 in. or larger. Additional : Each additional subject, add 75% to the commission portrait. Time: Portraits take on an average of 4 to 8 weeks for completion, unless otherwise informed, because of style or custom details. The season may also dictate the length of time for your work of art. Note: Oil Portraiture is to get a likeness of the sitter. Please review the style which will play a part in a finished portrait GROUP OR INDIVIDUAL PORTRAITS? Your portrait may involved portraying multiple subjects. Some clients prefer multiple subject in one portrait and the others prefer individual portraits for each subject. The advantage of a group portraits is that the possibility to show a relationship. Whereas individual portraits allow each subject to later own their own portrait. MOOD & PURPOSE OF THE PAINTING The ultimate purpose of the painting is the first thing to consider regarding mood. Generally, Corporate and official portraits occupy a more narrow range of mood with the subject usually depicted in business attire or a uniform, though this is not always the case. A family portrait normally allows a wider range of possible clothing and sittings and could be casual to very formal. Though an outdoor portrait often tends to be informal, this is really influenced by the choice of clothing. Regardless of whether the portrait is formal of informal, avoid loud prints and choose classic attire that places the portrait as painted in a particular era. Mood is affected by clothing, setting, facial expression, body position and medium. After the portrait is completed, the choice of a frame will also contributes to the mood. STYLE OF PAINTING Each artist has their own style. In choosing an artist you will get a feel for the style most attract you. PAINTING MEDIUM I only paint in fine oils. Oils are the best and last the longest time. You can look back over many centuries at oil painting that look like the day they are painted. I work hard to make my portraits have the same qualities. FRAMING Most artist will give recommendations for framing style. Some have a relationship with one or more framers and will be able to recommend and/or offer framing through them before the painting is delivered or you can handle the framing yourself. Depending on your choice of frame, it could run from several hundred dollars to several thousand dollars and some hand-carved, gilt frames or antiues might run many thousands of dollars
